Time to Complete: Ongoing — 5–10 minutes per entry

Purpose: Help you learn how to give AI better instructions by tracking results and refining your approach.

Why This Matters

Just like working with a teammate, clear communication matters. Practicing prompts helps you figure out how to ask AI the right way, spot patterns in what works, and get better results over time.

How to Use This Log

Use this page each time you test a prompt with AI. Aim to try a variety of tasks (e.g., summarizing, rewriting, searching, drafting) to build your confidence and skill.

Entry Template

What Task Were You Trying to Complete?

Your Original Prompt

What Did AI Give You? (summary or paste snippet)

Did the result help you? □ Yes □ Sort of □ No

If not, what went wrong? (circle all that apply)

  • Too vague - Too long - Wrong format - Off topic - Missed key details - Biased or weird tone - Other: __________

Did you revise the prompt? What did you change?

How did the updated prompt perform? □ Better □ Worse □ Same

What did you learn from this experiment?

Prompt Tweaking Tips

Try changing one thing at a time:

  • Add context (“Summarize this issue for a non-technical stakeholder.”)

  • Set a format (“Give me 3 bullet points.”)

  • Add tone or purpose (“Make it sound friendly and concise.”)

Practice Tracker (Optional)

Track how many times you’ve tested prompts:

🔲 First Try 🔲 5+ Tries 🔲 10+ Tries

Goal: Build up your “prompt muscle” gradually over time.

Reflection Prompt (Use Weekly or After 3–5 Logs)

“One thing I’ve learned about using AI effectively is…”

“One type of prompt I still need to figure out is…”
